GL2022 Conference, Norway

The 15th Gustav Lorentzen Conference on Natural Refrigerants (see more) was held in Trondheim, Norway (NTNU-SINTEF Campus) on June 13-15, 2022,  under the theme "The Natural Choices by 2030." The conference was attended by representatives of the EnerGizerS consortium.

Han Deng (SINTEF) discussed the results of the work carried out within Work Package 5 so far, giving a presentation entitled "Topside cycles for enhanced geothermal systems with CO2 and hydrocarbons as working fluids".

Two promising alternatives for topside systems for CO2-EGS in a Norwegian offshore location have been evaluated with respect to performance. The objective was to maximize power output, as the defined scenario considered limited local heat demand. The impact of key design and operational parameters were explored, such as circulated mass flow, well diameters and injection temperatures. Analysis of the optimization results shows a strong trade-off between wellhead pressure difference and circulated flow rate. The more complex topside configuration with direct well fluid expansion in cascade with an indirect ORC was found able to generate around 30% more net power than direct expansion alone.
