As part of Poland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, geothermal energy was identified as a strategic priority—particularly in the context of energy security, climate policy, and climate change adaptation. On May 7, 2025, the AGH University of Science and Technology hosted the international conference “Geothermal Energy for Europe: Strategic Perspectives and Challenges.”
The event, organized by the Polish Ministry of Climate and Environment, aimed to promote geothermal energy within the EU and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience. It brought together high-level representatives from the European Commission, EU Member States, business leaders, local government officials, and scientists to discuss strategic geothermal policy frameworks.
During the panel discussion “Benefits and Barriers to Geothermal Development: Perspectives on Geothermal Energy in the EU,” participants explored key challenges slowing the growth of the geothermal sector—including the urgent need to implement innovative technologies.
The EnerGizerS project is considered to be a step toward overcoming these barriers. Among the panelists was Prof. Anna Sowiżdżał, leader of the EnerGizerS Project.
