The European Geothermal PhD Days 2024

The European Geothermal PhD Days 2024 (EGPD 2024) was held in Delft on April 3-5, 2024. For the second time in its 15-year history, the conference hosted participants at the TU Delft.

PhD students presented their research in a group of topics: above the surface; underground thermal energy storage (UTES); shallow geothermal; deep geothermal; ultra-deep geothermal (UDG) and enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) and other.

The conference was attended by more than 70 PhD students from all over Europe. AGH was represented by two PhD students from the Department of Energy Resources: Maciej Szymanek presented a pitch&poster "CO2 and water as a working fluids - performance analysis of EGS technology - case study in Poland", while Magdalena Starczewska presented "The potential of mine water for energy purposes". Both topics attracted considerable interest. Next year's 16th EGPD 2025 is planned by the University of Szeged in Hungary.

„Research project supported/partly supported by program „Excellence initiative – research university" for the AGH University of Krakow".

The research leading to these results has received funding from the Norway Grants 2014-2021 via the National Centre for Research and Development.  The results presented are part of the Polish–Norwegian project: CO2-Enhanced Geothermal Systems for Climate Neutral Energy Supply, acronym EnerGizerS, registration number NOR/POLNOR/EnerGizerS/0036/2019.
